- Which fixtures and appliances can be ruled out entirely
When Access Becomes Necessary
Eventually someone has to reach the pipe to repair it. The purpose of non-invasive work is to make that opening once, in the right place, at a size dictated by the repair rather than by the search.
There are also cases where the surface evidence is genuinely ambiguous — two plausible sources, heavy ambient noise, a buried line with no traceable route. When that happens we say so and discuss the smallest reasonable exploratory access rather than presenting a guess as a finding.
Why This Is the Right Order of Operations
Demolition is irreversible, and every square foot of it has to be repaired afterward. Diagnosis is reversible: a test that comes back inconclusive costs time, not flooring. Doing the reversible work first is simply the cheaper sequence.
