Emergency Leak Detection
When water is actively running, controlling it comes first. Detection follows, once the situation is stable enough to test the system meaningfully.
What to Do Right Now

Close the main shutoff
Usually at the meter box or where the service line enters the building. If you have never located it, do that before you need it.

Cut power to affected areas
If water is near outlets, panels or fixtures, de-energize those circuits before entering the area.

Move what can be moved
Lift furniture and belongings off wet flooring; standing water wicks upward into anything porous.

Document everything
Photograph and video the water and the damage before cleanup begins. Insurers rely on this record.

Start air movement
Fans and dehumidification limit secondary damage while the source is being determined.
How Detection Fits In
A leak that is flooding is often obvious, and the priority is stopping it. Where detection earns its place is the aftermath: confirming that the loss has actually stopped, checking whether a second point is also failing, and mapping how far moisture has migrated so drying is not stopped too early.
It also matters when the water is under control but the source is still unknown — water appearing with no visible origin, which is where guesswork gets expensive.
